Trapped in Manhattan: Remembering 9/11

"On this day 10 years ago, America would be changed forever.... And so would I."

Just two days earlier, on September 9th, Michael Jordan would host a charity event in Charlotte, North Carolina. Twenty-four hours later on the eve of America's most catastrophic day, Michael Jackson would entertain a private audience in Manhattan, NY. Life was going on as usual and I was experiencing the bright lights of New York City for the first time. Excited to see the "Big Apple" for a brief moment, I remember thinking that my future had endless possibilities and was a bright as I wanted to be. It was something about the charge of energy that hung in the air that night. Returning to my Midtown hotel room, I showered and then laid down to rest peacefully in the comforts of my Waldorf Astoria bed.

As the moon and sun switched places, my friends, which would include NBA Allstar Champ Cedric Ceballos and his companion, would head to the JFK Intl airport for an early flight cross country. I lay comfortably asleep in my room until I awoke to utter chaos. The phones were ringing off the hook. Before panic and fear set in, I began reaching out to my family as they were desperately trying to reach me. It seemed somehow all of Dallas knew that I was there, possibly in harms way. After hours of dialing and getting many busy signals, finally the first sign of unity showed her face. A well connected associated of mine back in Dallas managed to link me up with a then upcoming super model named "Tiffany". She, not knowing anything about me, set out on her bicycle and rode over 45 blocks in what seemed like a battle zone. We would park her bike in my room, while we set out on foot. Tiffany and I bonded as we shared heart wrenching tears and hugs. She showed me how to get to the ferries considering they may have been my only resort of escaping of what resembled an island on fire.

The most erie feeling of all was having the ability to walk and stand in the middle of vacated New York City streets. Just two months shy of my 20th birthday, a range of emotions evoked a solace look on my face that would stay with me over the next 4 days. The destruction that took place on that beautiful morning, redesigned and tugged at the heart strings of a nation. More particularly, in an instance it changed a city that was known for rudeness and it's fast pace. I'd never been offered so many bottles of free water and slices of pizza. People looked at you in your eyes and cared about what you were feeling.

A somber and quiet New York stood still into the night hours as the brave men and women began digging through the mountains of rubble looking for any sign of life that may have been trapped beneath the ruins. After spending a sleepless night in the city. The next day I managed to make my way back to the ferry and get over to Hoboken where another one of my angels was awaiting. For days on end that seemed like an eternity, I watched the burning malformed New York City skyline from the New Jersey shores of Hoboken for hours at a time. Hanging onto every word that Mayor Rudy Giuliani uttered, strength and anger began to replace the fear and sorrow. I was ready to stand up and do something. As President George W. Bush spoke with his eyes, no matter the political stance, America once again stood shoulder to shoulder united as a great country. That one day would force me to realize just how short life is and how much of a promise it is not. I came to realize that regardless of what happened in my past, it was up to me to dictate my own future with the grace and guidance of God.

September 11th, 2001 would FOREVER change my life. This present darkness was no longer an idea, but now a reality. It would be up to us to implement real change that would push us to prevail and remain the great nation that we were. Never forget the 2,977 lives that were lost. Thank you to the brave and fearless beings that protect this great country we call home.

If you're a diva on a budget, setting trends or recreating those fierce looks off the runway can sometimes seem like a major faux pas when it comes to your wallet. As the seasons and styles change from one runway to the next, staying ahead of the game can be a challenge. Check out these tips below on "Buying Name Brand Without Paying Full Price".

Buying Name Brand Without Paying Full Price

• Understanding sale cycles:

NOTE- The best time of the year to find the BIGGEST & BEST sales are during July followed closely by November for the Holiday sales. After you've discovered your favorite brands or stores, open your mouth and ask a seasoned associate about their annual and semi- annual sales and GET ON THEIR EMAIL LIST. Almost EVERY major retailer has at least one.

Shopping for deals in July is like hitting the Jackpot. If you're worried about your "find" being a season behind, then you may want to get a really good 2nd job. Keep this in mind. Once you purchase something (especially shoes), it's typically something you plan on keeping and getting use out of it. Therefore, buying out of season or from a few seasons past, doesn't mean that you're out of date. It just means you shop smarter. Don't be confused though, sometimes you have to buy right away if it's something that you absolutely just can't live without or for statement pieces.

Many times during the larger sales, you'll find yourself snagging deals upwards of 70% Off! With savings like that, shopping at retailers such as Neimans, Saks and Nordstrom, is no longer out of reach.

• What to Buy:

The benefit of the July Sale Events is that you can often buy within season. Retailers have to make room for the new Fall inventory. Buy shoes, shoes, shoes, Spring/Summer clothing, and classic basics (they never go out of style). Shoes are a HUGE part of making your look. Invest in good quality shoes if possible. During these super sales, you can always find deep discounts on brands such as Gucci, Louboutin, YSL, Sergio Rossi, Casadei, Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and so many more.

Yes $300 may be expensive to some, but in terms of deal finding it's actually a steal for some brands. Often finding a "salon shoe" for a couple hundred bucks is unheard of, but stick to these rules and you'll find them over and over again.

• Department Stores Are Our Friends:

While boutiques can boast some major sales too, Large high end department stores have buying power. This just means they will have more options and have room to slash those prices even lower.

-Neiman Marcus has an AMAZING semi-annual sale in late June & July. It's be possible and proven that you can take a thousand dollars (including taxes) and purchase $2500 (pre tax) worth of name brand shoes and clothing (brands in this specific case: Alice+Olivia, Theory, Gucci & Casadei).

-Saks has an outstanding sale as well, but more importantly they feature a fun online thrill called Fashion Fix. Each day a specific group of items are set to go on sale at a certain hour. You must log on right at that given time because other savvy shoppers are racing you to the checkout for these steals.

-Norstrom offer a great sale in their shoe departments as well as the many clothing sections. Though high-end, they still offer a variety of price points year round.

Don't be afraid to venture off to department store outlets such as Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Off Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom Rack. You'll be surprised of the deals and steals you can find. They often won't have too many Super Luxe brands available, but you'll definitely be able to stock up on the mid level tier brands.

• In-Store vs. Online:

Get to know your favorite retailers and their policies well. Buying online is convenient and sometimes presents you with more options. On the other hand, each individual store will have different and unique pieces that you often can't find online.

• What NOT To Do Rules:

RULE1 As difficult as it may seem, DO NOT IMPULSE BUY. This is hard enough alone, but trying throwing great sale prices in the mix. Gaining control of that fashion demon that lives within every fashionista is crucial to budget shopping.

RULE2 Though we LOVE Forever 21 and Targé (Target), you don't want to build your wardrobe around those pieces. Use goods from those retailers "extend" your wardrobe.

RULE3 Don't wait until the last minute and expect to find a deal in your size.

RULE4 Save your money for the larger sales and Don't waste money on random cheaply made shoes or garments if you don't have to have them. Spending $40 here and there can quickly add up. Five or six 40 dollar cheap items can equal 1 or 2 quality pieces from a high end clearance sale which can be staples in your wardrobe.

Keep these tips in mind and you'll find yourself with a heavier wallet and a chic closet!

Putting Your Best Face Forward: Why I'm Baring it All

How often so you take the time to pamper yourself? Not often enough one would imagine. This week is Spa Week, A nationwide celebration of guess who? YOU! Many salons and spas have linked up with SpaWeek.com to offer general public AMAZING services at greatly reduced prices. Wondering what's the catch? There isn't one. The purpose of Spa Week is to benefit both the clients and the service providers. The consumer learns about new treatments and facilities while getting a heck of a deal and the providers have the opportunity to gain more business and new potential clients for life.

Day One: Completely Bare Dallas

Completely Bare offers specially formulated waxes and topical Lidocaine that makes the usually unbearable treatment tolerable. Is there still pain, yes however the result is till worth it. Waxing is something that I HAD attempted once before, but it was so painful that I never completely either treatment that I went in for. I'm a new believer. I didn't opt for the Lidocaine (which next time I may) and I still survived. In fact I was so pleased, I then grabbed the next available appointment that day for a full arm wax. This, I LOVED and it wasn't even on the radar for pain after the Brazilian!

2nd Stop: Nailicious. Although technically they aren't apart of Spa Week, I still stopped by to get a manicure and a fresh coat of Shellac. They have the largest selection of colors in Dallas. The gel system allows you to wear jaw dropping colors on your nails without the fear of chipping. Anyone that's rough on their hands can identify with that issue.

Day Two: V Spa (Located in the Hilton Anatole Hotel, Dallas)

Facials have never really done it for me; until today. The master esthetician Nazi, completely changed my mindset. From the time you're greeted at the front desk and escorted to the "Relax Room" until the time you walk out of the door back to your car, you will be in sheer bliss. Not only did I fall asleep, but when I woke up, I had the most refreshing feeling that I've had in a very long time. After visiting spas from Europe down to Costa Rica, I have never experienced a facial like the one from V Spa. It's difficult to imagine that they were offering such an experience for $50 during Spa Week. Also, anytime you get a spa service, you have free rain to use any of the Veranda Club facilities (that's worth a $50 day pass by itself). My only regret; not making a girls day out of it.

Today, I find myself sitting on a busy corner at Starbucks in the middle of Uptown, WITH NO MAKEUP! Baring my freshly waxed arms and my glowing fresh face, has turned more heads than I ever have with a full face of makeup. The past couple of days has been incredible for my mind, body and soul. I didn't realize how much my body was in need of some TLC. I've accomplished so much more and have an unusual amount of energy. There are still a couple days left in Spa Week. Don't miss the opportunity to take FULL advantage of some amazing revitalizing services. Your body is saying, "Pick me. Love Me." (~Meredith, Grey's Anatomy).

The guilt of needing more and more clothes is something most women share... well those that have made it to recovery have guilt. Trying to expand anything in this economy is a nightmare. So the thought of going on a Beverly Hills shopping spree, is probably just that.. a thought.

Going through your closet to revisit some of your former first loves, can often spark a new relationship. You don't have to "reinvent the wheel" so to speak, but adding a little pizzaz or taking something away can create an entirely new love affair all together. In this week's webisode, the "not so" dirty little secrets of the LBD (Little Black Dress) were exposed. That same principle can be applied over and over again throughout much of your closet.

Start learning to break the bad habit of "Mannequin Shopping". If it's something you totally rely on, then try thinking not just outside the box, but beyond the box. When you see a combination that you love, immediately think about other things that you have in your closet that may work well with the different pieces of the look.

(The combo includes a jacket/blazer, skirt and pants.)

(More importantly, a pair that's flattering to your body. Dark Denim is SLIMMING)

• Soft Ribbed Tank Tops (White & Black to start)
(NOT the "wife beater" tanks, but the ones that are soft. Target carries them year round.)

(NOT just tights. You don't want to be able to see your lingerie through them.)

(Depending on you size and shape, get a length that's complimenting and not demeaning.)

The Quest to Achieve a Dream

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On this day I also honor the Dream and one person in particular that it affected, in which like a domino effect, her life accomplishments permanently impacted me.

Nichelle Nichols, born Grace Nichols in late December 1932, managed to leave an everlasting mark in history. Destined to be a highly touted theatrical performer on Broadway, Nichols appeared in some of the most famous productions such as "Carmen", "Porgy and Bess", "Blue Angel", and "Kick's and Co". Gracing the cover of Ebony magazine in the late 60's, Nichelle would be offered the role of a lifetime just a short time later.

The popular but short-lived series Star Trek opened the doors to history for Nichols as she portrayed a high ranking lieutenant. This role would make her the first African American woman to play a role that was non-menial such as a servant or maid. The first year was quite challenging as you could imagine and in fact she came close to leaving the production. That was until she met one of biggest fans, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After a brief conversation about her intentions, Dr. King, urged Nichelle to continue on because her role was vital to the lives of black children and young women across America.

Clinching to the words of Dr. King, Nichols pressed on to deliver a performance that would be one that she'd forever be remembered for. The infamous, industry changing kiss that she shared with William Shatner was the first ever on screen interracial smooch for a major tv series. Imagine the controversy this must of caused in the early Civil Rights Movement Era. The production house played the scene off as an alien inflicted force of telekinesis.

Later, Nichelle Nichols went on to volunteer for NASA and make huge efforts that would impact space travel as young women would know it. Including the life of Dr. Sally Ride, the first female American astronaut and Dr. Judith Resnik, the first African American female astronaut. It is the life and legacy of Nichelle Nichols that has inspired me to follow my dreams and keep "The Dream" of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. alive and strong.

The After Effect:

After experiencing the craziness of last year, the year 2011 had to hold a brighter future. Just three days into the new year, I received a call from a good friend that happens to be a reporter. She wanted to inform me of a temporary opening at her station and suggested that I apply for it . On edge after sending a packed email full of information and links showcasing my work, it took only 2 days to get the call! I finally was given the opportunity to interview with one of the local news stations for what I thought was a temporary position. That Friday I had my chance. I successfully managed to get hired on a trial basis in order to prove myself. That's all I could ask for, because the rest was up to me and I was GAME!! Though it's only been a week since my first day, things have began to blossom and unfold in ways that I could've never imagined. My dream is starting to unfold right before my eyes.

Whether this experience last over a lifetime or for just a few weeks, it will be one that I forever hold dear to my heart. I am thankful for the opportunity and I will continue in my efforts to make a difference in the lives that will follow after me.

This is my dream and I am Living it!

Day 1: FFANY Show w/Massimo Dogana

"The Shoes"

House of Haute Bombards New York for the FFANY (Fashion Footwear Association of New York) as a guest of famed Italian shoe designer Massimo Dogana. It’s like the Fashion Week of Fashion Footwear. The experience here is completely orgasmic for fashionistas and shoe lovers alike. The wide range of mostly Italian shoes covers every spectrum of the consumer taste. Wholesalers and retailers mix and mingle to in efforts to “wow” the masses of shoe connoisseurs. Located in the heart of Midtown near Rockefeller Center, the exhibit style show is held at the Hilton New York Conference Center.

As to be expected, there were many extremely talented designers, but it was the Massimo Dogana Collection that took the entire show by storm for his ultra unique style. Not many in the overall Footwear industry can even come close to rivaling Dogana’s creativity. Who said that just Diamonds were a girl’s best friends? It’s quite clear that the sparkly Swarovski Crystals are too! At least 1/3 of the Dogana Fall Collection contains some sort of crystal embellishment. So if you’re one of those sparkle Divas, you can refer to this as shoe Heaven! Celebs and music superstars such as R&B singer Ashanti wear these exclusive and one of a kind designs.

..... And yes, Massimo Dogana is also in the business of making Handbags!

How much are you really saving?

Use these tips to help keep

more cash in your pocket

Shopping for others can be a painstaking task to begin with. Throw in the stress of the Holiday season and you have a recipe for impulsive buying. When shopping impulsively, you tend to over buy, over spend and many times miss out on the very thing you set out to purchase from the beginning. This is usually cased by pushy sales people or the allure of HUGE enticing Sale signs.

Be cautious

Just because a store has a larger than life Sale sign slapped in the window or on in an email, doesn't mean that your savings are actually as they appear to be. It's no secret that many retailers will increase the original price on an item and then mark it down. which means in all actuality, you're saving only about 5-10% vs. the 30-50% advertised. Though this would probably be frowned upon by most consumers, it is a common marketing practice that is widely used throughout the industry (while some being more extreme than others). It's the illusion of saving that draws the consumer near.

All sales are not created equal

Do your research before dropping a few stacks on unnecessary purchases. Find out which stores you'd prefer to shop from. Ask the manager about any special offers that may not be advertised. Get a clear understanding on how the sales works and exactly which items it applies to. You're guaranteed to find an ad that reads, "70% Off!". Just be sure sure to read the entire thing; fine print especially. Otherwise, you'll find yourself standing in line for 30 minutes only to pay full price for most everything. There ARE some really great legit sales out there. You just have to look for them and just because you may be saving 30% vs. the advertised 60 doesn't mean that you didn't find a good deal. It's all in perspective.

Current Sales:

New York & Co. is ending their Black Friday Sale today. These prices maybe going away after today, however keep in mind that ALL of the retailers are just getting started. Sales like this one will continue to sporadically appear throughout the shopping season.

Arden B.'s "Buy One Get One for $10" sale ends today as well. Sales such as this one can actually be pretty decent if you choose the right items.

Bebe is also closing out their 2 day sale of "Up to 70% Off". Be careful of sales written with the words "up to" in them. Usually there is a small select group that is actually deeply discounted whereas most other sale items are actually 20 0r 30% off. Getting clarification will come in handy when shopping a sale like this. The clearance section of some Bebe stores have some really great finds. You have to get in there and dig!

Pressures of Holiday Shopping?

Follow the tips below to help maintain your sanity.

The stress of holiday shopping can man handle the best of us. Before setting foot out the door, sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with yourself. Prepare mentally for the task at hand. Expect the worse when it comes to dealing with crowds of determined & eager shoppers. If you happen to be going out in a group, make sure you are in agreement on which stores you will be going to. Lastly, keep in mind the real reason you celebrate the Holiday season to began with.

1. The Budget | Avoid going over your means

Creating a budget is probably the most important step in keeping it all together. If at all possible stay away from credit cards. You'll keep the debt to a minimum. Being that money is usually the core of most stress related problems, carefully plan out a specific budget for each person. This brings us to our next tip.

2. The List | Put everything in writing

It's best to create a list before you leave home. Figure out everyone that you'll be shopping for and how many gifts each person will be receiving. Next to each person, write down your pre-planned budgeted amount along with type of gift you'll be looking for.

3. The Fashion | Dress comfortably

This will be one of the few times you hear the phrase, "Pass on the Heels" uttered out of the House of Haute™ camp! Hardcore shopping allows no room for high heels of any sort. You'll definitely regret it. Wearing yoga pants, a cotton warm up or a pair of comfy jeans (not too tight) and a weather appropriate top will help keep your cool while waiting in long check out lines. Avoid wearing too heavy of a coat. It will only get in your way as you are going in and out of the stores and will eventually frustrate you. Carry an over the should purse or no purse at all. Simply carry your cash, I.D. and debit or credit card in a safe pocket. Tennis shoes or Ugg like boots are perfect for the task.

4. The Target | Identify a specific area to shop

During peak times, such as Black Friday, attempt to target a smaller area with more stores so that you aren't wasting time fighting traffic. Utilize valet services if possible or park in a safe neutral location where you can easily access your vehicle. Remember, if you take your purchases back and forth to your car, always think safety FIRST. Stay alert, watch your surroundings , and be sure to keep packages out of site if storing them in your vehicle as you continue shopping.

5. The Mental | Patience is a virtue

If you don't remember anything else, always keep in my that patience is going to be your best friend. Throughout the hustle and bustle of the shopping madness, most people will be in a rush and leave their patience at home. It's in your best interest to expect the worst and be prepared to deal with angry shoppers and drivers.

Don't become a product of the hostility. Try your best to stay focused and keep close the reason you celebrate each Holiday season. For us here in the House of Haute comp, it's Christmas, a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Figure out what's most important to you and use that as your core focus. Enjoy your holidays with family and friends.

Target or TarJay as so many of us fans call it, has year after year attempted to keep up with the trends of the fashion world by teaming up with major designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, Rodarte and a few others like Converse. This effort has allowed many up and coming fashionistas the ability to create their own unique style without breaking the bank.

During a random trip to a Dallas Target, l ran across some fab must have pieces that every aspiring fashionista can afford. Not all of the items shown below will spark everyone's eye, but there is definitely something for everyone. Let me know what your favorite pieces are, if any and also how you feel about Target's efforts to producing an affordable yet trendy line of clothing.

The two wraps shown are perfect for leggings and skinny jeans. A strong salute goes out to those converse military jackets. The cotton is so soft but the cut on them is perfect. The navy one found it's way into my own collection and came steps away from being used in a photo shoot! CUTE! House of Haute Approved™!

Simple Office Attire:

These Pieces can be mixed and matched along with things that you currently have in your closet. Just add a blazer, perhaps a trouser, a scarf, or your own skirt. There's no limit to the combinations that can be obtained from mixing and matching.

Fun Casual Wear:

Get the skinny on the skinny! Skinny jeans are still in and are here to stay... for awhile anyway. These affordable stretchy jeans will definitely compliment your own look. The plaid shirts below aren't your from your grandpa's farm. They have creatively been married to the perfect sized ruffle down the middle. it gives it a chic twist to the plaid. I liked it so much, that I took one home with me!

The House of Haute™ movement was started purely of the love and passion that I have for not just the world of fashion but also for the production and behind the scenes environment that comes along with it which allows me to be the "Dork" that I am. I never imagined that this baby would grow up so quickly and start developing into something so beautiful right before my eyes.

Without you, House of Haute™ would be just another YouTube channel. Because of you, we are so much more. We are a family united by a common denominator: Fashion. My world went from a box of 24 crayons to a set of 128! You guys rocked my life and helped bring out of me what had been trapped inside for over 25 years. Dallas' Ultimate Show in Fashion: Nha Khanh's Spring 2011 Collection

Nha Khanh... a force to be reckoned with.

Last Wednesday unlocked the vault to the most anticipated runway show of the year that Dallas has ever seen. Designers Khanh Nguyen and Nini Nguyen have successfully proven that opposites do attract. According to the website (www.nhakhanh.com) both Khanh and Nini are lovers and students of fashion yet had two very different ideas of what modern wear for a woman should look like. Nini's very chic and masculine while Khanh's was very soft and elegant. Combine the two and I introduce to you: Nha Khanh, the fashion industry's newest force to be reckoned with.

The Venue:
Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
(Located in the Arts District of Dallas, TX)

The location itself set the tone for the evening. A grand venue fit for a spectacular show. Its unique and very modern design was very much like the designers themselves. Without question this was an appropriate and perfect match.

My Favorite Look of the Collection

This ever so chic collaboration of sexiness and sophistication hit the runway strong with a jaw dropping reaction from the critics and onlookers alike.

The sheer back makes that sexy & bold statement while the feathered like front gives a modern new meaning to sophistication. This is definitely a ready-to-wear piece that will make a debut in my own closet.

The Nha Khanh signature without doubt, is the elegance of evening and bridal wear. Their designs aren't easily rivaled and offer a new face to the modern bride. The Black Velvet Collection from the 2011 line offers an array of functional pieces that will compliment a variety body shapes. From the sleek and seductive to the over-the-top wow statement gowns, the power house duo came through.

It was quite obvious where Nini Nguyens boldness shone through. The compilation of the 50's Era and New Aged Contemporary style were merged together and then birth a riveting risque touch to the Spring Collection. Reintroducing the "Hot-Pants" and "Bloomers" was a gamble that definitely payed off.

The petite duo collectively have mastered what has been missing from what Dallas has to offer. A strong touch of class and sass rolled into sophistication pretty much sums up the entire line along with the experience presented by The Fashionistas in conjunction with Jan Strimple Productions. The Nha Khanh debut has Officially been stamped House of Haute Approved™.

If you aren't familiar with the illustrious world of fashion, allow me to get you acquainted with one of the most exciting weeks in the biz! Last Friday also know as Fashion Night Out wrapped up Fashion Week New York. 2011's Hautest trends and most amazing Spring Collections were showcased.

Ok so that has nothing to do with this article! The honors for this piece without doubt go to the infamous Fashion Night Out. This Vogue inspired day of fashion mayhem being held on the last Friday of Fashion Week, is almost solely responsible for jump starting the consumer confidence (for retail that is) after a horrific financial downturn just 3 years ago. Though it's only in it's 2nd annual phase, this year's Fashion Night Out was HUGE and "HUGE" made it's way all the way south to Dallas, TX!

Being the fashionista that I tend to be, I was flooded with coveted invitations to over 12 private high-end retailer soirees. Inundation has become a permanent fixture in my life it seems. So there was only room for ONE (Major BOMBER!) due to my crazy schedule. After careful consideration (and I mean VERY careful), I chose to attend the Christian Louboutin Store in Highland Park Village (in Dallas) for their Grand Opening Party and Extravaganza. It was THE BOMB! I absolutely LOVED the store, the decor, and of course the management team. Mark and Whitney will definitely be my go to people there (How You Doin'??).

The Contest:

Walking it Out in My Little Red Soles would be the phrase for the night. As I was strongly encouraged by other party goers to strut my stuff down the black carpet, I drooled over this Patriotic looking display with some A-MA-ZING 8 inch gold heeled stilettos. Hummmphh...and then there was silence. So not knowing that those were the shoes that I would have to work it out in as apart of the contest, I quickly decided to enter my name. "GA-GA GAGA GA-GA..." Blared throughout the building. I downed my second glass of champagne and headed for the start line. Last but not least, I worked those Miss America, Patriotic looking platform pumps O-U-T out! And down the black carpet it went. The blinding bulbs were flashing and people were cheering and the champagne........ well "you know"! HA!

The rest was history! I brought home that Crown, Sash, Flowers, oh and of course those DAMN red soled shoes! That's right! Your favorite fashionista brought home the title of Miss Louboutin and a pair of FREE "Miss America" platform pumps (aka the Patriot Pump). That's cute!

The Dirt on Dallas Dating

There’s a grave tone underneath the glitz and glam of dating in Dallas, and it’s not pretty. Is there actually a right or wrong way? Or is it a set of rules that only apply to each individual situation? Don’t adjust your fanny too much girls, because we’re half of the problem.

After extensively researching a state of dysfunction in my own dating life for a noticeable second time, I became compelled to get to the bottom of this “barrel of monkeys”. Once again I’d found myself single ….in Dallas. This go round might have just been worst than the first time. A little older and a tad wiser, there wasn't necessarily the need to reassure myself of the amazing qualities that I posses as a woman. Without doubt, there was more to this than the eye could see.

Ever wonder why there are so many short-lived relationships in a city that is ranked in the top five for having the most eligible bachelors in the country? The answer “lies” within the question. Take the phrase “Top Five”. It automatically screams a rare commodity. Take “Eligible Bachelor” and it heavily resonates commitment phobia. And that’s where I thought the problems began. Apparently, being single in Dallas for a guy is the best thing since sliced bread. This I found perplexing since as of 2007 there were more than 40,000 more single guys than single women. Sounds grand, however in the scheme of things considering the Metroplex is roughly over 7 million strong now, that 40K is more like chump change and still makes for a pretty level playing field.

The men in Dallas seem to “just” date women for as long as they can get away with it. And not just you, but Jane, Becca, Nikkie, Keisha, and Gloria too! If there’s no commitment, they are all fair game. It pretty much just means which flavor of the week are you? Let’s face it, dating when carried out respectfully, can be a very useful tool to perhaps find that life long partner or soul mate. However in the Big D, it’s straight up abused! A guy will use any line to get the fish on the hook and in the meantime, he’s reeling in three other lines at the same time. Low and behold, once the thrill is gone, it all becomes a painful game of catch and release.

The commitment phobia is like a disease for sure running ramped. Why selfishly lead a woman on knowing that you haven't the slightest interest in her being more than a piece of ass? I love the guys that can't answer their phone late at night while on a date with a girl. Who could that be? Mom perhaps, wanting to tuck him into beddy-by. Oh no it's his sister needing him to come by to clean her pipes at 12 AM. I'm Just saying... because it happens often and I hear about it. No guys, you can't technically "date" a girl for 4 months and she not think that she's your girlfriend. Save it, because being raised with boys and growing up a tomboy, I know for a fact that you guys can pretty much identify within the first 2-4 weeks whether or not a woman is wife material let alone if you want to be in a monogamous relationship with her. I do know that there is that special group of women out there that want you just for you luscious hot body. If that understanding is there, then I'm not talking to you.

By nature, the male species are for the most part are hunters and when the prey falls too easily, it benefits the likes of no one. In fact over the years it has evolved into a role reversal. It’s nothing new these days for a guy wanting to be pursued. That just grosses me out! But hang on a second. Ladies, we are partly at fault for this one!

Whether it’s the way we have raised our spoiled “I never have to do anything for myself” mama’s boys or the way we have lowered our self worth by allowing such unthinkable behaviors be tolerated, we have contributed to the tomfoolery. A man will ONLY do what we allow. There’s no finger pointing here because we are ALL guilty of it at some point and to some degree. Some just happen to be worse than others.

This brings me to an entirely different issue that I have with many women in Dallas. The term “The grass is greener on the other side” is more of an understatement from what I have observed. I have found through talking with many, many guys that for some, becoming jaded at an early age is part of the reason their behavioral pattern is so relationally unjust. Story after story paints a sympathetic picture of a toy being tossed a side when the newer, wealthier, more powerful Ken™ doll comes into play. So how does a young late 20 something or a young 30 compete with the more experienced 35 – 40 or 50? He can’t. The problem isn’t so much that we as women are just looking for security, it’s when we callously play this game of “big bank take little bank’s girl”. Where are our values? Where does being true to ourselves, play a part? It apparently doesn’t.

In short, Dallas has the highest number of Gold Diggers on this side of the Mississippi. As someone that has been constantly accused of being one myself, I am not quick to point fingers at others. The difference however, is my relationships with wealthy older men started with genuine intentions, involved my heart and at times left me being the one hurt. I never traded up on anyone and the reasons those relationships ended, not one time had to do with my hands being dirty. I will say this though; the best quote comes from Melania Trump. When asked whether or not she married “The Donald” for his wealth, she politely answered with a question. “Would he have married me if I weren’t beautiful?” She also went on to say that she does love him and that it’s a trade out to some degree. So this isn’t a brow beating to those with pure intentions. This is a calling out to those of you that make it hard for the rest of us deserving women to be found by a good man. Stop making yourselves so easily and readily available and more importantly stop USING guys for the SOLE purpose of self-gain.

This has help create a vicious circle of love and war without the love. Guys are trying to get laid by as many women as possible and women are just trying to get the most out of whichever guy as possible. Does courting and true dating exist anymore? I’m not sure that it does, but I will remain single until the right man finds me.

So here I am up early on a Saturday morning finishing this article. Why? Because, it very much needs to be addressed and admitted. My theory is this: TRUTH. If we would all just tell the truth about our situations and allow the other person to make their own decision based upon truthful information, not only would we get further, but we also gain so much more respect. Whatever happened to that word? Yet and still I haven’t figured out which came first, the egg or the chicken. I have a hunch though that the more that men began hurting women the more callous we became. Maybe….

The Back Story on Why I Wrote this Article:

What Fueled this Fire?

Over the past 4 – 5 months or so, I’ve pretty much been single and back in the dating scene. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! From the Jersey Shore style spiked hair to the swaggalicious athlete, I’ve run across them all. There was one guy in particular that I went out on a date with that really had me wanting to ship him back to Cali. We met at one of my favorite local feeding post. I was minding my own business enjoying a nice aged glass of an 18-year Scotch. Though he and his Jersey Shore group had a table and waitress, he made it a point to squeeze in right next to me at the bar to order 3 drinks one at a time. We had a little small talk. I smiled and giggled a bit just as any slightly interested woman would. Shortly after, I closed my tab and left. I didn’t bother going as far as offering up my number or asking for his considering he was with a large group and I wasn’t for sure if he were with any of the girls. An hour later, one of the waitresses hunts me down and asked if it were ok to give him my number. I thought about it and said sure after she explained that he was with a group and he didn’t want to be rude to one of the girls that particularly show great interest in him although he wasn’t so into her.

The next day he calls, we talk and then the texting began. (Uggghh…..) So I learn that he’s mid 30’s former athlete just moved to Dallas from California and living in one trendier high rises in Dallas. RED FLAGS were flying everywhere at this point. I give him the benefit of the doubt and hesitantly go out on a date with him. It was ok, not bad but not great either. He claimed to have not been dating anyone and that at one point had dated a girl that he just really wasn’t that into. After his bad texting habits and inconsiderate last minute future date planning got the best of my nerves I basically called it quits.

In the meantime I scrolled his FaceBook page and noticed a lot chicks commenting on his page, one standing out more than the others. The face looked familiar but I couldn’t pin point it. All I knew was that she was in love with a player. A week later take myself to brunch and low and behold, I run into group Jersey Shore all over again. This time the puzzle came together. That was the same girl he was with at the first restaurant and the same mushy chick from FB. OH Damn…no this douche bag didn’t! He’d been in a relationship with this girl all along. She had no clue. LMAO! Wow….really? I’d paid to been able to record the look on his face when he saw me. Dallas is TOO small for that kind of behavior. This from someone that spent 20 minutes going on and on about how he just doesn’t understand how men cheat…especially on someone like me (LOL) in reference to my ex husband.

Now this is where Dave Chappell’s “When keeping it real goes wrong” could’ve been the ending to this story.

What would you have done? LOL...

•Confront him right there on the spot in front of his girl and friends.

•Call or text him and tell him how big of a douche he really is.

•Put him on blast via Facebook and contact his little love interest.

•All of the above.

•Or write shamelessly about him in a blog. (LOL)

The Truth: What Most Black Women Won't Admit

Before you read this, please note: I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE for any of the following. The truth is no longer the truth when it altered. I promise to tell it EXACTLY as I perceive it.

I hardly ever directly address a certain race or group of people. However, I think now is the time to do so.

Whatever happened to the words of Mary J. Blige, “Stay Down”? Though that particular song was written based on the relationship between two lovers, it can also be applied to a sisterhood or true friendship. Since the age of 6, it quickly became apparent that I wouldn’t move through life with many female counterparts. Being the outsider and different, prepared me for the lonely journey that I have traveled for the last 23 years.

Though so called “haters” do fuel the very fire that makes success possible, it’s quite unfortunate that it seems to always come from within what one would assume to be “my camp”. It baffles me to see black women of all people, tear one another part. It’s no secret that women in general can be catty, but this is something entirely different. It’s like a plague that is spreading rapidly. The need to dissect another woman without just cause is a reflection upon your own insecurities within yourself. What does it gain you to demean another? Does it give you a temporary boost in your self-esteem? Or does it justify your lack of drive or self-value?

Allow me to empower you with a bit of knowledge. Before you go dropping hateful and derogatory verbiage on another woman, try finding out exactly who she is. You never know, SHE could be the very person that can help you get to where you are trying go. Just imagine if we invested just as much time into lifting one another up as we do tearing each other down, there could be some serious advancement within our culture. There will always be someone more beautiful than you, more educated, have a hotter husband or boyfriend, drive a better car, have a bigger house, more worldly and cultured than you. Don’t be intimidated. Just maybe she can clue you in on something that you are lacking.

As women, we are the mothers that raise our children and instill morals and values into the innocent lives of our future. For what will happen if this plague continues to spread like wildfire? We will soon eradicate the race as a whole. Don’t believe me? Try taking a group of 30 people. If they all hate each other and want to destroy one another, eventually all will be defeated and one will be left standing. Unfortunately, that one will be his own demise because of the hate that he harbors within. It will eventually kill him too. Harboring hate reflects upon our children and in particular our young boys. We need to teach them love and how to be a team player, not how to live as a crab does. It’s pretty obvious right? Apparently not.

I’ve never lived my life to please anyone other than God, myself and perhaps, at one time my family. Don’t spend your time worried about what I’m doing because I will continue to do me. You should spend time doing you and more importantly, if you need me, I’ll be there to help you in anyway I can. There’s enough out there for everyone. You just have to learn how to tap into it. Don’t judge me based on what you think I have or don’t have; on who you think I was married to or going to marry; on how I look or don’t look. Books have covers for a reason. You’ll never know what lies in between the covers unless you spend time reading the actual content. How many times in school did you neglect to prepare for a test and then at last moment try to look for context clues? Odds are you probably failed that exam. The same applies to people.

I challenge you to start swapping something negative for something encouraging or positive and see what type of result you find. I dare you tell the next woman you see that she is beautiful. Did you know that when polled*, over 75% of girls 10 -14 felt as though they weren't pretty enough? We have more than enough to deal with coming out of the gate. Stop Tearing Each Other Apart and Start Building Each Other Up.

I will close with this statement:

The Team Haute™ Movement is about empowerment. We are a team that shares a common goal to strive for greatness and excellence. In the process of achieving our goals we uplift and encourage one another. The moment that a jealous twitch enters our mind, we combat it with love and rest in the fact that one-day our turn will come too. Remember, you get out what you put in.

If you find yourself on the other side of this philosophy, you may want to resign from Team Haute™. Don’t fret though! You continue to play crucial part in fueling that raging fire.

My heart tells me that I love you. My gut tells me that you don’t love me, and probably never will.

My heart pushes me to call you just one more time.

My gut makes me face reality and recognize that if you cared, I’d be on your mind.

My heart keeps me hopeful that you will one day realize how special I am. MY gut urges me to keep moving. The right one, will actually give a damn.

My heart is so strung out over you, that I can’t even think straight. My gut constantly reminds me of the foolish mistakes that I have made.

On assignment for D210, I spent an entire morning with real life Dr. McDreamy himself. Never in my life have I been so speechless. Dr. Rey literally took my breathe away in a somehow flirty but innocent way. With all do respect to wife Haley Rey, Dr. 90210 has the ability to make any woman feel like she's on top of the world. We chatted very sexually about his new sensual skin care products that claim to rejuvenate the skin (from fillers to body lifters) with the combination of science and nature's very own remedies straight out of the Brazilian jungles. I must admit, as flush as he made me feel with his words, Dr. Rey definitely drove the point home: his products are "the" best on the market. After listening to this anything but normal presentation, I was actually convinced to try it myself! Affairs In The Air

As we all know I've dealt with a bit of a scandal of my own. However, recently the air ways have been flooded with the many rumors and allegations of infidelity reaching from coast to coast and through industry to industry. It was just confirmed this morning that Oscar Award winner Sandra Bullock has in fact split from Husband and Chopper King Jesse James for an alleged sexual relationship with "Tattoo Model" Michelle McGee. Close friend of McGee told US Weekly that the affair had been going on for at least 11 months. Sandra Bullock caught major flack for skipping out on a movie premier in Europe, just days before the release of this information. America's sweetheart has understandably been in seclusion since the unraveling of this nightmare.

On the flip side of behavior, Mashonda Tifrere the wife of Swizz Beats aka Kasseem Dean, decided to openly express her feelings to Alicia Keys, the alleged mistress of Swizz via "Twitlonger". The supposed affair has been kept quite for over two years now. J records recording artist and also Alicia Keys label mate, blames the mega star to be the leading source that cause the destruction of the five year marriage. Recently Alicia tweeted random little love notes about the relationship between her and Swizz Beats. Mashonda rightfully so, found them to be disrespectful and out right selfish. It was also reported that Alicia had not responded to any of the numerous attempts that were made by Tifrere in order to discuss the manner like civilized adults.

As a woman that has dealt with infidelity issues in a previous marriage, I can certainly identify with both Sandra Bullock and Mashonda Tifrere wholeheartedly. It is unfortunate that families have to be destroyed and children left scared all because of the "WILLING" and selfish women that aspire to have the benefits and quality of your life without putting in the ground work. The men involved in both of these particular situations, are beyond selfish and without balls if in deed these "allegations" prove to be true. This type of behavior is NOT HAUTE at all!

After attending IMG's Fashion Week in New York last week, it dawned on me just how unfair it was of me to sit in on the fashion shows here in Dallas. Not to take anything away from the local designers, the show production and extreme collections were just not there and resulted in utter disappointment. This is, as I stated, unfair in the sense that New York is the capital of Fashion as far as the States are concerned and the home of broadway theatrical production. How can anyone compete?

To give credit where it is due, The Pin Show was made up of 31 designers, which most where graduating students or newly graduated students of fashion/design industry schools. The few exceptions included the lines of Nha Khanh, Indigo Private Label, and Disco Doli. Another notable was CarmenIris by Carmen Campos. Her designs are strictly for the voluptuous and curvaceous divas. CarmenIris brings sassy and glam to the Haute Ladies of dress sizes 14 and up. I thoroughly enjoyed her collection. She'll be one to stay on the look out for. The Disco Doli line didn't stand out because of anything extreme, it simply took you back to the basics of chic and girlie girl. Her focus was on the pin-up era of skirts mixed with soft tanks that celebrate the femininity of a woman's neckline and shoulders. Nha Khanh will bee a household name in the near future. House of Haute is already a fan of the collection. The Pin Show itself may have not been on the top of it's game, however stylist, Willie Johnson III most certainly was. He is one of Dallas' very few top level stylist. His creativity goes beyond the box and outside of the lines. This highly sought after runway coach and stylist is doing it for the "Kids"!

As for Project Runway's own, Shirin Askari's debut collection was breath taking and for the most part very strong. Neiman Marcus's Randi Schwartz and I both agreed that Jackets and Coats are Askari's strong point. They are structured, tapered and draped with unbelievable lines and precision. According to former classmate Khanh Nguyen, Shirin's ability to flawlessly design structured coats and jackets is nothing new and was definitely one of her strengths. Her label will definitely make it into House of Haute's studio 152. The production of Shirin Askari's debut Collection was presented by The Fashionistas and considering the dynamics of the space they had to work with, I'd say that it was a success from a critics stand point. The projectors and in house video helped pull the effect off. Although, some sort of platform would've given it that extra push, all was well and the point was driven home.

Overall, I suppose my encounters weren't so bad after all. Perhaps we wouldn't be having this discussion if Fashion Week NYC would've been after the Dallas shows and not before.
